Green Sports is a trans-national, co-financed project that is part of the Leader Plus programme.
It is promoted by the Italian Local Action Groups (LAGs) of Ogliastra (head) and Vastese Inn, as well as by the French LAG of Ploërmel - Coeur de Bretagne. Its purpose is very simple: to try out open-air tourist packages in the Ogliastra (Sardinia), Vastese (Abruzzi) and Oust à Brocéliande (Brittany) areas.
There are 5 sports of reference: Climbing, Mountain Biking, Trekking, Paragliding, and Horse Riding.
3 customer bases have been identified: "specialist" sports enthusiasts, companies wishing to use leading-edge outdoor training methods for their management teams, and independent tourists who are more likely to choose mainly sports-based packages (young people, couples, and groups of friends).
Finally, there are 3 scheduled experimental sporting events:

The Ogliastra LAG is a voluntary consortium that manages the funds of the Leader Plus European Community programme for the Ogliastra area. This area is located in the heart of eastern Sardinia, enclosed between the sea and the mountains and it includes 18 municipalities, ranging from a minimum of 500 to a maximum of 4000 inhabitants. The aim of the Ogliastra LAG is to improve the quality of life in the area in social and economic terms, contributing to its development. Sports tourism is one of the ways that allows economic growth for local businesses to be combined with a deep respect for the environment.
The Vastese INN LAG is a voluntary consortium that manages the funds of the Leader Plus European Community programme for the area around Vasto. It extends through the heart of the Abruzzi covering some 60 km from the mountains down to the sea, through hillsides that are home to 26 municipalities ranging from a minimum of 210 inhabitants to a maximum of 3,500. Therefore, it is a highly rural setting, if one excludes the coastal strip, which is fairly industrialised; this means that there is a great openness on the part of stakeholders in the local communities to focus on the development of sports tourism.
The Gal Ploërmel - Coeur de Bretagne s a voluntary consortium that manages the funds of the Leader Plus European Community programme for the central territory of Brittany, in the northwest of France. This area includes 55 municipalities overall, for a total of 65 thousand inhabitants and extends over 1286 square km. The LAG has a specialist agency for the development of tourism, the Pays Touristique de l'Oust à Brocéliande, which is able to identify particularly successful packages, such as sports tourism for business clients.
